Total number of rectangles in the given figure = 4 + 4 + 4 + 5 + 4 + 2 + 4 + 2 + 1 = 30.

Hexagons :

The hexagons in the given figure are CDEKLM, CEUKMQ, CFHJMQ, BEUKNP and BFHJNP. So, there are 5 hexagons in the given figure.

= (6x1)+(5x2)+(4x3)+(3x4)+(5x2)+(6x1)

= 6+10+12+12+10+6 = 56

Draw out the diagram and you will see that the width of the picture becomes 8.5 - 3 = 5.5

The length becomes 10 - 3 = 7. The area is now 5.5 x 7 = 38.5
