The Periyar Sanctuary covers an area of 777sq km. It was established in 1949. Elephants , Gaurs, leopards, solth bear, sambhars, barking deer, wild dogs, wild boars, black Nilgiri langur and water birds can be seen in this sanctuary.

The C.M of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal has recently launched the ‘Chief Minister’s Award’ to promote digital transaction in Assam.

The Chief Minister’s Award would be given to the best performing district of the state that adopts digital payment methods and also educate larger section of the society about the cashless transaction.

The winning district’s Deputy Commissioner would be presented a prize of Rs 50,000 at the end of financial year 2016-2017 after March 31, 2017.

The Council of States (Rajya Sabha) is composed of not more than 250 members, of whom 12 are nominated by the President. The twelve members are chosen by him from among persons having special knowledge or practical experience in literature, science, art, and social service.
