Aptitude and Reasoning Questions

Q:

Milk and water are mixed in a vessel A as 4:1 and in vessel B as 3:2. For vessel C, if one takes equal quantities from A and B, find the ratio of milk to water in C.

A) 1:9 B) 9:1
C) 3:7 D) 7:3

Answer & Explanation Answer: D) 7:3

Explanation:

Ratio of Milk and water in a vessel A is 4 : 1

Ratio of Milk and water in a vessel B is 3 : 2

Ratio of only milk in vessel A = 4 : 5

Ratio of only milk in vessel B = 3 : 5

Let 'x' be the quantity of milk in vessel C

Now as equal quantities are taken out from both vessels A & B

=> 4/5     :     3/5
               x
  3/5-x          x - 4/5

=> 35-xx-45 = 11 (equal quantities)

=> x = 7/10

Therefore, quantity of milk in vessel C  = 7

=> Water quantity = 10 - 7 = 3

Hence the ratio of milk & water in vessel 3 is 7 : 3

A) 1.9048 B) 1.2040
C) 0.9840 D) 1.4521

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) 1.2040

Explanation:

Given that, log 64 = 1.8061

 i.e log43=1.8061

--> 3 log 4 = 1.8061

--> log 4 = 0.6020

--> 2 log 4 = 1.2040

log42=1.2040

Therefore, log 16 = 1.2040

2. Which institute has the highest percentage of candidates passed to the candidates enrolled?

A. Q                  B. R                  C. V                  D. T

3. The number of candidates passed from institutes S and P together exceeds the number of candidates enrolled from institutes T and R together by:

A. 228              B. 279              C. 399              D. 407

4. What is the percentage of candidates passed to the candidates enrolled for institutes Q and R together?

A. 68%             B. 80%             C. 74%             D. 65%

5. What is the ratio of candidates passed to the candidates enrolled from institute P?

A. 9:11             B. 14:17           C. 6:11             D. 9:17

Answer

1. ANSWER : C

Explanation - Required percentage=9% of 57008% of 8550×100 % =  9×57008×8550×100 % = 75%

2. ANSWER : B

Explanation - The percentage of candidates passed to candidates enrolled can be determined for each institute as under:

 P =  18% of 570022% of 8550×100 %  = 54.55%

 Q = 17% of 570015% of 8550×100 % = 75.56%

 R = 13% of 570010% of 8550×100 % = 86.67%

 S =16% of 570017% of 8550×100 % = 62.75%

 T = 9% of 57008% of 8550×100% = 75%

 V=  15% of 570012% of 8550×100% = 83.33%

 X= 12% of 570016% of 8550×100% = 50%

 Highest of these is 86.67% corresponding to institute R.

3. ANSWER : C

Explanation - Required difference = [(16% + 18%) of 5700] - [(8% + 10%) of 8550]

= [(34% of 5700) - (18% of 8550)]

= (1938 - 1539)

= 399

4. ANSWER : B

Explanation - Candidates passed from institutes Q and R together    =  [(13% + 17%) of 5700] = 30% of 57000.

Candidates enrolled from institutes Q and R together   = [(15% + 10%) of 8550] = 25% of 8550.

Required Percentage = 30% of 570025% of 8550×100 % = 80%

5. ANSWER : C

Explanation -  Required ratio =  18% of 570022% of 8550 = 6/11
