Aptitude and Reasoning Questions

Q:

Two cars, a Maruthi and a Toyato, start at the same time in opposite directions from two distinct points A and B. Starting from A, the Maruthi reaches B in 6 hrs 20 minutes and the Toyato starting from B, reaches A in 4 hrs 45 minutes. What is the speed of the Toyato, if the speed of the Maruthi is 60 Km/h?

A) 75 kmph B) 80 kmph
C) 86 kmph D) 90 kmph

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) 80 kmph

Explanation:

Let the distance between A and B = D

Given the speed of maruthi = 60 kmph

Maruthi reaches from A to B in 6 hrs 20 min = 6 + 20/60 = 6 1/3 hrs

Now, the distance between A & B = D = speed x time = 60 x 19/3 = 380 kms

As the distance is same for toyato also,

given time for toyato = 4 hrs 45 min = 4 + 45/60 = 4 3/4 = 19/4 hrs

speed of toyato = distance/time = 380/19/4 = 380 x 4/19 = 80 kmph.

Q:

What is the sum of all 3 digits number that can be formed using digits 0,1,2,3,4,5 with no repitition ?

A) 28450 B) 26340
C) 32640 D) 36450

Answer & Explanation Answer: C) 32640

Explanation:

We know that zero can't be in hundreds place. But let's assume that our number could start with zero.

The formula to find sum of all numbers in a permutation is

111 x no of ways numbers can be formed for a number at given position x sum of all given digits

No of 1 s depends on number of digits

So,the answer us

111 x 20 x (0+1+2+3+4+5) = 33300

We got 20 as follows. If we have 0 in units place we can form a number in 4*5 ways. This is for all numbers. So we have substituted 20 in formula.

Now, this is not the final answer because we have included 0 in hundreds place. so we have to remove the sum of all numbers that starts with 0.

This is nothing but the sum of all 2 digits numbers formed by 1 2 3 4 5. Because 0 at first place makes it a 2 digit number.

So the sum for this is 11 x 4 x (1+2+3+4+5).
=660

Hope u understood why we use 4. Each number can be formed in 4x1 ways

So, the final answer is 33300-660 = 32640

Q:

If the price of kerosene be raised by 11%, find by how much percent a house holder must reduce his consumption of kerosene so as not to increase his expenditure?

A) 11% B) 9.09%
C) 11.09% D) 8.25%

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) 9.09%

Explanation:

Let the price of kerosene be x and household
consumption be y.
Expenditure = xy
New cost of kerosene = 1.1x, let new household
consumption be z.
In order to not to increase expenditure,
xy = 1.1x * a
⇒ a= 10y/ 11
⇒ consumption should decrease by = 1/11 X 100 = 9.09%
