Quantitative Aptitude - Arithmetic Ability Questions

Q:

The concentration of glucose in three different mixtures (glucose and alcohol) is 12,35 and 45 respectively. If 2 litres, 3 litres and 1 litre are taken from these three different vessels and mixed. What is the ratio of glucose and alcohol in the new mixture?

A) 3:2 B) 4:3
C) 2:3 D) 3:4

Answer & Explanation Answer: A) 3:2

Explanation:

Concentration of glucose are in the ratio = 12:35:45

Quantity of glucose taken from A = 1 liter out of 2

Quantity of glucose taken from B = 3/5 x 3 = 1.5 lit

Quantity of glucose taken from C = 0.8 lit

So, total quantity of glucose taken from A,B and C = 3.6 lit

So, quantity of alcohol = (2 + 3 + 1) - 3.6 = 2.4 lit

Ratio of glucose to alcohol = 3.6/2.4 = 3:2

Q:

If the labour cost 20% of the cost of production and raw material cost 10% of the cost of production and the price on which article is sold is 20% above the cost of production. If the price of labour is increased by 40% and the price of raw material increased by 20% and rest other expenditure of cost remain constant. The industry thus decide to increase the selling price by 10%. Find the new profit percent  ?

A) 18% B) 20%
C) 22% D) 24%

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) 20%

Explanation:

Let the Cost of Production of the article = 100

Then, Labour Cost = 20

Raw Material = 10

Other Expenditure = 100 - 10 – 20 = 70

Selling Price of the article  = 120

After increasing Labour and Raw material cost by 40% & 20% respectively,

New Labour cost = 28

New Raw material cost = 12

New Cost of Production = 70 + 28 + 12 = 110

Then, New SP = 110% of 120 = 120 x 110/100 = 132

=> New Gain = 132 - 110 = 22

=> New Profit % = 22 x 100/110 = 20%

Q:

The banker's discount on Rs. 1650 due a certain time hence is Rs. 165. Find the true discount and the banker's gain.

A) 15 B) 20
C) 18 D) 13

Answer & Explanation Answer: A) 15

Explanation:

   Sum = [(B.D.xT.D.)/ (B.D.-T.D.)]

              = [(B.D.xT.D.)/B.G.]

T.D./B.G.  = Sum/ B.D.

   =1650/165

               =10

Thus, if B.G. is Re 1, T.D. = Rs. 10.

If B.D.is Rs. ll, T.D.=Rs. 10.

If B.D. is Rs. 165, T.D. = Rs. [(10/11)xl65]

            =Rs.150

 And, B.G. = Rs. (165 - 150) = Rs, 15.
