GDPR stands for the General Data Protection Regulation. The GDPR is a piece of EU legislation passed by the European Parliament in 2016.

It aims to make it simpler for people to control how companies use their personal details.

Companies will not be allowed to collect and use personal information without the person's consent.

Data includes things like a person's name, email address and phone number, and also internet browsing habits collected by website cookies.

Senior IPS officer Alok Kumar Verma, Delhi Police Commissioner was appointed as new Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation. He will have tenure of two years. He was selected by a three-member committee comprising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice J S Khehar and Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge. He will take over from interim director Rakesh Asthana, who was handed the reins of the premier investigating agency after former director Anil Sinha retired on December 2, 2016.
