Q:

The breadth of a rectangular field is 75% of its length. If perimeter of the field is 1050 m, what will be th area of field ?

A) 65700 sq.m B) 54500 sq.m
C) 78700 sq.m D) 67500 sq.m

Answer & Explanation Answer: D) 67500 sq.m

Explanation:

Let the length be 'l' and breadth be 'b'.

b = l × 3/4__________(a)

2(l+b) = 1050

l+b = 525___________(b)

From equations (a) and (b),

l = 300m, b = 225 m

Area = l × b

= 300 × 225

= 67500 sq.m.

Q:

If a positive integer n, divided by 5 has a remainder 2, which of the following must be true?

A) n is odd B) n + 1 cannot be a prime number
C) (n + 2) divided by 7 has remainder 2 D) n + 3 is divisible by 5

Answer & Explanation Answer: D) n + 3 is divisible by 5

Explanation:

You can find the integers which when divided by 5 have a remainder 2 by adding 2 to all multiples of 5. So we have n = 7 , 12, 17, 22 etc.

From this series we can see that n does not have to be odd.

Also n + 1 can be a prime because, for example, 12 + 1 = 13

And (n + 2) / 7 has a remainder 2 in some cases but not all.

Remember the question asks us for what MUST be true, and we see that none of the statements are true in all cases. However, adding 3 to any of the values of n will always give a multiple of 5.

Q:

What kind of crystalline solid is graphite?

A) Metallic B) Ionic
C) Molecular D) Covalent- network

Answer & Explanation Answer: D) Covalent- network

Explanation:

Graphite is a covalent-network type of crystalline solid.

There are two main categories of solids.

1. Crystalline solids and

2. Amorphous solids.

Crystalline solids are those in which the atoms, ions, or molecules that make up the solid exist in a regular, well-defined arrangement.

There are four types of crystalline solids :

Ionic solids :— Made up of positive and negative ions and held together by electrostatic attractions. They’re characterized by very high melting points and brittleness and are poor conductors in the solid state. An example of an ionic solid is table salt, NaCl.

Molecular solids :— Made up of atoms or molecules held together by London dispersion forces, dipole-dipole forces, or hydrogen bonds. Characterized by low melting points and flexibility and are poor conductors. An example of a molecular solid is sucrose.

Covalent-network (also called atomic) solids :— Made up of atoms connected by covalent bonds; the intermolecular forces are covalent bonds as well. Characterized as being very hard with very high melting points and being poor conductors. Examples of this type of solid are diamond and graphite, and the fullerenes. As you can see below, graphite has only 2-D hexagonal structure and therefore is not hard like diamond. The sheets of graphite are held together by only weak London forces!

Metallic solids :— Made up of metal atoms that are held together by metallic bonds. Characterized by high melting points, can range from soft and malleable to very hard, and are good conductors of electricity.

Q:

If the price of a commodity is decreased by 20% and its consumption is increased by 10%, what will be the increase or decrease in the expenditure on the commodity?

A) increase 12% B) decrease 12%
C) increase 16% D) decrease 16%

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) decrease 12%

Explanation:

Given the price of a commodity is decreased by  p = 20%

And its consumption is increased by q = 10%

Now, required increase or decrease in the expenditure on the commodity can be

p + q + pq/100 = -20 + 10 - 200/100 = -10 - 2 = -12%.

Hence, decrease in the expenditure = 12%

Q:

The inner circumference of a circular race track, 14m wide is 440m. Find the radius of the outer circle.

A) 84m B) 24m
C) 44m D) 54m

Answer & Explanation Answer: A) 84m

Explanation:

let inner radius be r meters.

2πr=440r=440×744=70mradius of outer circle =70+14m

Therefore, Radius of outer circle = 70 + 14 = 84m
