Absolute value of a number :

It means that the distance of a number from 0 on a number line. 

Here absolute value of 9 is that on a number line 9 is 9 units away from 0. Hence its absolute value is 9. Similarly, absolute value of -9 means -9 is also 9 units away from the 0 on number line. Hence, absolute value of -9 is also 9.

Hence, the absolute value of 9 is 9.

By trial and error method,

P=0, Q=9, R=0 satisfies the values.

From statement I,

Time taken by Sriram to complete the work = 40 days

From statement II,

Time taken by Sriram to complete the wok = 30 days

So from both either by statement I or statement II we can find the time to complete the work.

Metonymy is a figure of speech in which a thing or concept is referred to by the name of something closely associated with that thing or concept. Hence it occurs when a word is replaced by a word that has an obvious relation to itself.

In the given example of the text, the bones refer to the human being.

Carbohydrates are also called as saccharides are molecular compounds made from just three elements:

carbon, hydrogen and oxygen.

Carbohydrates are:

* a source of energy for the body e.g. glucose and a store of energy, e.g. starch in plants

* building blocks for polysaccharides (giant carbohydrates), e.g. cellulose in plants and glycogen in the human body

* components of other molecules eg DNA, RNA, glycolipids, glycoproteins, ATP

Types:

1. Monosaccharides (e.g. glucose) and

2. Disaccharides (e.g. sucrose) are relatively small molecules. They are often called sugars.

3. Other carbohydrate molecules are very large called Polysaccharides such as starch and cellulose.
