Kwashiorkar is produced by protein deficiency unaccompanied by calorie  deficiency.  It  results  from the  replacement  of  mother’s  milk by a high calorie-low protein diet in a child more than one year in age. Like marasmus, kwashiorkor shows wasting   of   muscles,   thinning   of limbs,  failure  of  growth  and  brain development

The striations are a result of the A bands of sarcomeres appearing as relatively wide, dark stripes under the microscope, which alternate with narrower, lighter colored stripes formed by the I bands. 

The striations of skeletal muscle are created by the organization of actin and myosin filaments resulting in the banding pattern of myofibrils.
