Ilbert  Bill  was  introduced  in  1883 by  Viceroy  Ripon.  It  proposed  to grant  limited  criminal  jurisdiction to  native  officials  over  European British    subjects    living    in    the districts under their charge.It also allowed Indian judges and magistrates  the  jurisdiction  to  try British  offenders  in  criminal  cases.
