Land prices in the East were getting too expensive, and the West (Great Plains) offered an opportunity for more people to own land. Although the area suffered from extreme weather and poor soils, many people decided to take the risk and venture to the Great Plains. The government was also committed to supporting those who decided to make the move.

Settlers moved to the Great Plains for several reasons. One reason was the government was offering 160 acres of land for free if the settler agreed to live on the land for five years. This was part of the Homestead Act of 1862.

Some people went to the Great Plains when they heard there were minerals in the region. Gold was one mineral found in the Great Plains region. People hoped to make a lot of money by mining gold.

Energy can be either potential or kinetic. The energy associated with motion is called Kinetic energy and similarly, the energy associated with position is called Potential energy.

The 8th amendment of the US constitution tells the government not to give excessive bail, nor fines , nor unusual punishments.

A rainbow is a natural spectrum appearing in the sky after a rain shower. It is caused by dispersion of sunlight by tiny water droplets, present in the atmosphere. A rainbow is always formed in a direction opposite to that of the Sun. The water droplets act like small prisms. They refract and disperse the incident sunlight, then reflect it internally, and finally refract it again when it comes out of the raindrops.

Kepler’s  laws  of  planetary  motion state  that  (a)  All  planets  move  in elliptical orbits with the Sun at one of  the  focal  points  (b)  The  radius vector  drawn  from  the  sun  to  a planet  sweeps  out  equal  areas  in equal  time  intervals.  This  follows from  the  fact  that  the  force  of gravitation on the planet is central and  hence  angular  momentum  is conserved.  (c)  The  square  of  the orbital   period   of   a   planet   is proportional  to  the  cube  of  the semi  major  axis  of  the  elliptical orbit of the plane.
