Bank PO Questions

Q:

Shawn invested one half of his savings in a bond that paid simple interest for 2 years and received Rs.550 as interest. He invested the remaining in a bond that paid compound interest, interest being compounded annually, for the same 2 years at the same rate of interest and received Rs.605 as interest. What was the value of his total savings before investing in thesetwo bonds?

A) Rs.2543 B) Rs.2534
C) Rs.2546 D) Rs.2750

Answer & Explanation Answer: D) Rs.2750

Explanation:

Shawn received an extra amount of (Rs.605 – Rs.550) Rs.55 on his compound interest paying bond as the interest that he received in the first year also earned interest in the second year.

The extra interest earned on the compound interest bond = Rs.55

The interest for the first year =550/2 = Rs.275

Therefore, the rate of interest =55275*100= 20% p.a.

20% interest means that Shawn received 20% of the amount he invested in the bonds as interest.

If 20% of his investment in one of the bonds = Rs.275, then his total investment in each of the  bonds =27520*100 = 1375.

As he invested equal sums in both the bonds, his total savings before investing = 2 x 1375 =Rs.2750.

Q:

A quantity of tea is sold at Rs. 5.75 per kilogram. The total gain by selling the tea at this rate is Rs. 60. Find the quantity of tea being sold if a profit of 15% is made on the deal ?

A) 72 kgs B) 80 kgs
C) 76 kgs D) 84 kgs

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) 80 kgs

Explanation:

Say total cost price of tea is x.
Then total profit at a rate of 15% is = (15x/100)
According to question,
15x/100 = 60
so x = 400
C.p of the tea is Rs. 400.
so total selling price will be = (400+60) = Rs.460
so the quantity of the tea will be = (460/5.75) = 80kg.

Q:

Seats for Mathematics, Physics and Biology in a school are in the ratio 5 : 7 : 8. There is a proposal to increase these seats by 40%, 50% and 75% respectively. What will be the ratio of increased seats ?

A) 1 : 2 : 3 B) 2 : 3 : 4
C) 3: 4 : 5 D) 4 : 5 : 6

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) 2 : 3 : 4

Explanation:

Seats for Mathematics, Physics and Biology in a school are in the ratio 5 : 7 : 8.

Seats for Mathematics, Physics and Biology in a school are 5x, 7x and 8x.

There is a proposal to increase these seats by 40%, 50% and 75% respectively.

Then Seats for Mathematics, Physics and Biology in a school will be

1.4 X 5x, 1.5 X 7x and 1.75 X 8x and

ratio will be 7 : 10.5 : 14  => 2:3:4.

Q:

What percentage of simple interest per annum did Anand pay to Deepak?
I. Anand borrowed Rs. 8000 from Deepak for four years.
II. Anand returned Rs. 8800 to Deepak at the end of two years and settled the loan

A) I alone sufficient while II alone not sufficient to answer B) II alone sufficient while I alone not sufficient to answer
C) Either I or II alone sufficient to answer D) Both I and II are necessary to answer

Answer & Explanation Answer: D) Both I and II are necessary to answer

Explanation:

Let the rate be R% p.a.

I  gives, P = Rs. 8000 and T = 4 years.

II gives, S.I = Rs. (8800 - 8000) = Rs. 800.

R = [100 x S.I] / [p x t ]= (100 x 800)/(8000 x 4) = 2 ½ % p.a

Thus, I and II both are needed to get the answer.

Q:

Determine the number of rectangles and hexagons in the following figure.

A) 30, 5 B) 32, 3
C) 28, 5 D) 30, 3

Answer & Explanation Answer: A) 30, 5

Explanation:

The figure may be labelled as shown

Rectangles :

The simplest rectangles are CVSR, VETS, RSWM and STKW i.e 4 in number.

The rectangles composed of two components each are CETR, VEKW, RTKM and CVWM i.e 4 in number.

The rectangles composed of three components each are ACRP, PRMO, EGHT and THIK i.e 4 in number.

The rectangles composed of four components each are CEKM, AVSP, PSWO,VGHS and SHIW i.e 5 in number.

The rectangles composed of five components each are AETP, PTKO, CGHR and RHIM i.e 4 in number.

The rectangles composed of six components each are ACMO and EGIK i.e 2 in number.

The rectangles composed of eight components each are AGHP, PHIO, AVWO and VGIW i.e 4 in number.

The rectangles composed of ten components each are AEKO and CGIM i.e 2 in number.

AGIO is the only rectangle having sixteen components

Total number of rectangles in the given figure = 4 + 4 + 4 + 5 + 4 + 2 + 4 + 2 + 1 = 30.

Hexagons :

The hexagons in the given figure are CDEKLM, CEUKMQ, CFHJMQ, BEUKNP and BFHJNP. So, there are 5 hexagons in the given figure.

Q:

A and B runs around a circular track. A beats B by one round or 10 minutes. In this race, they had completed 4 rounds. If the race was only of one round, find the A's time over the course:

A) 8 min B) 7.5 min
C) 12.5 min D) 12 min

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) 7.5 min

Explanation:

B runs around the track in 10 min.

 i.e ,    Speed of B = 10 min per round

 Therefore,  A beats B by 1 round

Time taken  by A to complete 4 rounds

= Time taken by B to complete 3 rounds

 = 30 min

Therefore, A's speed = 30/4 min per round = 7.5 min per round

Hence, if the race is only of one round A's time over the course = 7 min 30 sec

Q:

The Capacity of a Communication Channel is Measured in

A) Band rate B) Band width
C) Data flow D) Bit capacity

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) Band width

Explanation:

The path that data takes from source to destination is called a Channel. A channel is a communication medium. A channel has a certain capacity for transmitting information.

The "capacity" of a channel is the theoretical upper-limit to the bit rate over a given channel that will result in negligible errors. Channel capacity is often measured by its Bandwidth in Hz or its data rate in bits per second.
