A rainbow is a spectrum of light that appears in the sky when sunlight is refracted through raindrops or other drops of moisture in the Earth's atmosphere. They have inspired much popular folklore, including the belief that a leprechaun can be found with a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur will confer a doctorate on former sprint queen PT Usha, who missed a medal by a whisker at the 1984, Los Angeles Olympics. The degree, Doctor of Science (honoris causa – a degree awarded as a mark of esteem) will be conferred on June 16 to mark the 50th convocation of the prestigious institute of the country. This is her second doctorate – in 2002, Kannur University had conferred D.Lit on her.

We know that polar substances are soluble in polar solvents and non polar substances are soluble in non-polar solvents only. Here the hydrocarbons are non-polar molecular substances and water is a polar solvent. So water can't dissolve hydrocabons.

Hence, as hydrocarbons are non-polar substances, they are insoluble in water as it is a highly polar solvent.
