All of the genetic information in a cell was initially thought to be confined to the DNA in the chromosomes of the cell nucleus.

It is now known that small circular chromosomes, called extranuclear, or cytoplasmic, DNA, are located in two types of organelles found in the cytoplasm of the cell.

These organelles are the mitochondria in animal and plant cells and the chloroplasts in plant cells.

Chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) contains genes that are involved with aspects of photosynthesis and with components of the special protein-synthesizing apparatus that is active within the organelle.

Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) contains some of the genes that participate in the conversion of the energy of chemical bonds into the energy currency of the cell—a chemical called adenosine triphosphate (ATP)—as well as genes for mitochondrial protein synthesis.

The Qatar Airways has launched the World’s longest scheduled commercial service to ply between Doha to Auckland. The inaugural service of Flight QR920 took off on February 5, 2017 from Doha and will take 16 hours and 20 minutes to travel 14,535 kilometers to reach Auckland in New Zealand.
This makes Qatar Airways to launch the World’s fastest and longest passenger service in terms of flying time. Prior to this, emirates launched the world’s longest non-stop scheduled commercial flight with a service from Dubai to Auckland, spanning 14,200 kilometres.

Snehlata Shrivastava, appointed as the first woman Secretary General of the Lok Sabha. The appointment was made by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan. Ms. Shrivastava will replace Anoop Mishra, who retired on November 30, 2017. 

Ms. Shrivastava, a senior civil servant with 35 years of rich and varied administrative experience is a 1982 batch IAS officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre.

Uttar Pradesh is the most polluted state in India, with 15 of its cities among 30 cities with highest levels of toxic air in the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency Varanasi turned out to be the worst polluted city of UP. Countrywide, it came sixth.

Other towns and cities in UP on the list are Hapur, Bareilly, Firozabad, Kanpur, Agra, NOIDA, Allahabad, and Mathura where PM10 levels were way above permissible limits.

Kerala is the least polluted state in the country, India. In all the 14 districts of the state, NAAQ(National Ambient Air Quality Standards) standards are complied with and had lower concentrations of PM10. However, all the cities surpassed the PM10 standards prescribed by WHO.

The name given to the bond between water molecules is a hydrogen bond. These bonds occur between the slightly negative oxygen of one water molecule and the slightly positive hydrogen of another water molecule. Hydrogen bonding gives water special physical properties.

The differences in electronegativity between hydrogen and oxygen lead to an unequal sharing of electrons. Electronegativity measures how strongly an atom attracts electrons. Oxygen, with its higher electronegativity, pulls on the shared electrons more, giving the oxygen atom a partial net negative charge. The shared electrons spend less time with the hydrogen atoms; therefore, the hydrogen regions of water have partial positive charges.
