The LMHOSTS file is a static method of resolving NetBIOS names to IP addresses in the same way that the HOSTS file is a static method of resolving domain names into IP addresses. An LMHOSTS file is a text file that maps NetBIOS names to IP addresses; it must be manually configured and updated.

There can be two types of subqueries:
a.) Correlated sub query :
- It can reference column in a table listed in the from list of the outer query but is not as independent as a query.
b.) Non-Correlated sub query :
- Results of this sub query are submitted to the main query or parent query.
- It is independent like a query

DB2 acts as the participant and CICS acts as a co-ordinator
