Q:

The altitude drawn to the base of an isosceles triangle is 8cm and the perimeter is 32cm. Find the area of the triangle?

A) 50 B) 60
C) 70 D) 80

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) 60

Explanation:

let ABC be the isosceles triangle, the AD be the altitude

Let AB = AC = x then BC= 32-2x       [because parameter = 2 (side) + Base]

since in an isoceles triange the altitude bisects the base so

BD = DC = 16-x

In a triangle ADC, AC2=AD2+DC2

x2=82+16-x2 x=10

BC = 32-2x = 32-20 = 12 cm

Hence, required area = 12*BC*AD12*12*10 = 60 sq cm

Q:

A F Z U G L T _

Find the next letter in the above given letter series?

A) K B) M
C) O D) Q

Answer & Explanation Answer: C) O

Explanation:

Given series is A F Z U G L T _

Starts with A

A + 5 letters = F

go to end of alphabet= Z

Z - 5 letters = U

from F go one more to G + 5 letters = L

from U go one back to U, T - 5 letters = O

Second Method ::

Change the letters to their corresponding number.

A=1

B=2

C=3

...

Z=26

A F Z U G L T _

1 6 26 21 7 12 20 ?

Look at the pattern: the 1st and 3rd numbers = 27, 1+26

the 2nd and 4th numbers = 27, 6+21

the 5th and 7th numbers = 27,

so the 6 and 8th would also equal 27.

27 - 12 = 15,

so the letter is O.

C) 15 % D) 20 %

Answer & Explanation Answer: D) 20 %

Explanation:

SP2 = 2/3 SP1
CP = 100
SP2 = 80
2/3 SP1 = 80

Q:

A sum of Rs.1550 was lent partly at 8% p.a. simple interest. The total interest received after 3 years was Rs.300. The ratio of the money lent at 5% to that lent at 8% is :

A) 5:8 B) 6:7
C) 16:15 D) 17:18

Answer & Explanation Answer: C) 16:15

Explanation:

let the sum lent at 5% be Rs.x and that lent at 8% be Rs.(1550-x). then,

Interest on x at 5% for 3 years + interest on (1550-x) at 8% for 3 years = 300

 x*5*3100+1500-x*8*3100=300

 x=800

Required ratio =  x : (1550-x) = 800 : (1550-800) = 800 : 750 = 16 : 15

Q:

Due to reduction of 25% in price of oranges a customer can purchase 4 oranges more for Rs. 16. what is original price of an orange?

A) Rs 1 B) Rs 1.33
C) Rs 1.5 D) Rs 1.6

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) Rs 1.33

Explanation:

Recall it is based on inverse proportion or product constancy concept.

     Reducion in price                      increase in amount

         25%     1/4                              1/3   33.33% = 4 oranges

It means original number of oranges = 4 x 3 = 12

original price of oranges = 16/12 = Rs. 1.33
