Dr. A Keshav Krishna, a scientist at the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), has been selected for 2016 National Geoscience Award by the Ministry of Mines in the field of Geo-environmental studies in applied geosciences.

The C.M of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal has recently launched the ‘Chief Minister’s Award’ to promote digital transaction in Assam.

The Chief Minister’s Award would be given to the best performing district of the state that adopts digital payment methods and also educate larger section of the society about the cashless transaction.

The winning district’s Deputy Commissioner would be presented a prize of Rs 50,000 at the end of financial year 2016-2017 after March 31, 2017.

The C.M of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan has recently launched e-health program “Jeevan Rekha” to make electronic health records of a population in Thiruvananthapuram.

It is a first-of-its-kind initiative in India to provide a centralised database of healthcare information and efficient service delivery to the people.

The new system would help in creating a good hospital management system and patient-friendly atmosphere in hospitals.

Once data of a patient is centralised, it would help the person get continuous treatment at all hospitals in the state.

Dr. Gullapalli N. Rao, the founder and chair of the LV Prasad Eye Institute (Hyderabad), has been selected to the 2017 Ophthalmology Hall of Fame instituted by the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS). He will be honoured at the induction ceremony in Los Angeles on May 6, 2017 at the annual meeting of the ASCRS.

Currently, Rao is the President of the prestigious Academia Ophthalmologica International (AOI), a group of 80 eminent academicians in ophthalmology in the world and is a past Chair of the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB).

India’s first indigenously designed and developed high thrust cryogenic rocket engine generating a nominal thrust of 19 tonnes was successfully endurance hot tested for a duration of 800 seconds on July 16, 2015 at ISRO Propulsion Complex, Mahendragiri.

The engine will be used for powering the Cryogenic stage (C25), the upper stage of the next generation GSLV Mark-III launch vehicle of ISRO, capable of launching four tonne class satellites.

This cryogenic engine of C25 Stage operates on Gas Generator Cycle using extremely low temperature propellants – Liquid Hydrogen (LH2) at 20 Kelvin (-253 deg C) and Liquid Oxygen (LOX) at 80K (-193 deg C).

BRICS is basically an association of 5 major emerging national economies: Brazil, Russia,China, India and South Africa.

BRIC was coined in Foreign Ministerial meeting of Brazil,Russia,China and India in Newyork in Sept 2006. BRIC officialy came in existance in 2009 at Yekaterinburg,Russia.

At start group was named as BRIC, but after being formally invited by the BRIC countries to join the group, South Africa officially became a member nation on 24 December 2010, and the group was renamed BRICS.
