“Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana” was launched by the Ministry for Social Justice and Empowerment on 1 April 2017 at Nellore (Andhra Pradesh). Under the scheme, physical aids and assisted-living devices for senior citizens were distributed to senior citizens belonging to below poverty line (BPL) category.

– The scheme has been implemented through the sole implementing agency – Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation (ALIMCO), a public sector undertaking. The aids to be distributed under the “Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana” scheme include walking sticks, elbow crutches, walkers, tripods / quadpods, hearing aids, artificial dentures and spectacles.

– The ambitious scheme, first of its kind in the country, is expected to benefit 5,20,000 Senior citizens over a period of the 3 years.

Foreign Affairs Ministry has turned down the proposal to rename West Bengal to ‘Bangla’, citing diplomatic confusion over similarities with the neighbouring country Bangladesh, according to reports. ‘E-Cinepramaan’ is the name of the online film certification system (OFCS) that was launched by Union Information & Broadcasting Minister Venkaiah Naidu on 27 March 2017.

– This online system is being seen as a big step towards making the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) paperless and transparent, enabling effective monitoring and real-time progress tracking for applicants.

– E-Cinepramaan will enable producers to track the status of their application online and would be inform them through SMSes and e-mails about any required action. The system also has inbuilt alerts to ensure that time-limits are adhered to.
