Q:

A Shopkeeper sells two articles at Rs.1000 each, making a profit of 20% on the first article and a loss of 20% on the second article. Find the net Profit or loss that he makes?

A) 4% B) 5%
C) 6% D) 8%

Answer & Explanation Answer: A) 4%

Explanation:

SP of first article = Rs.1000

Profit = 20%

 CP = SP x 100100+P% = Rs. 25003

SP of Second Article = Rs.1000

 Loss = 20%

 CP = SP x 100100-L% = Rs. 1250

So, Total SP = Rs.2000; Total CP = Rs.6250/3

As the CP is more than SP, he makes a loss.

Loss = CP - SP = (6250/3) - 2000 = Rs.(250/3)

So, Loss Percent = Lossx100/CP = 4%

A) 52.5 B) 62.5
C) 72.5 D) 82.5

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) 62.5

Explanation:

Let the capacity of 1 bucket = x.

Then, capacity of tank = 25x.

New capacity of bucket  = (2/5)x

Q:

Two trains are running in opposite directions in the same speed. The length of each train is 120 meter. If they cross each other in 12 seconds, the speed of each train (in km/hr) is

A) 42 B) 36
C) 28 D) 20

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) 36

Explanation:

Distance covered = 120+120 = 240 m

Time = 12 s

Let the speed of each train = v. Then relative speed = v + v = 2v

2v = distance/time = 240/12 = 20 m/s

Speed of each train = v = 20/2 = 10 m/s

= 10 × 36/10 km/hr = 36 km/hr

Q:

Two dice are thrown together .What is the probability that the sum of the number on the two faces is divided by 4 or 6.

A) 7/18 B) 14/35
C) 8/18 D) 7/35

Answer & Explanation Answer: A) 7/18

Explanation:

Clearly, n(S) = 6 x 6 = 36
Let E be the event that the sum of the numbers on the two faces is divided by 4 or 6.
Then,E = {(1,3),(1,5),(2,2),(2,4),(2,6),(3,1),(3,3),(3,5),(4,2),(4,4),(5,1),(5,3),(6,2),(6,6)}
n(E) = 14.
Hence, P(E) = n(E)/n(S) = 14/36 = 7/18
