In astronomy, a syzygy is a straight-line configuration of three or more celestial bodies in a gravitational system.Solar and lunar eclipses occur at times of syzygy, as do transits and occultations.

Carbon monoxide (CO) is very dangerous because it binds with the haemoglobin more efficiently than oxygen does. It "hogs the seats" so that oxygen can't get a ride. And those CO molecules keep riding around, never giving their seats up to the oxygen. This means there is no way to get oxygen to the brain, heart, or other cells and those cells start to die. And finally, it leads to suffocation and even death of a person.

However, in the context of the temperance movement, the term usually indicated complete abstinence, which means drinking no alcohol at all. The goal of the temperance movement in the United States was to make the production and sale of alcohol illegal. Supporters believed that prohibiting alcohol would solve a number of society's problems, making people safer, healthier, and more productive.
