DNA is called the blueprint of life because it contains the instructions needed for an organism to grow, develop, survive and reproduce. DNA does this by controlling protein synthesis. Proteins do most of the work in cells, and are the basic unit of structure and function in the cells of organisms.

Supreme Court collegium has selected senior advocate Indu Malhotra as the first woman lawyer to be directly appointed as a judge of the apex court.

Along with Malhotra, Uttarakhand High Court Chief Justice KM Joseph has also been promoted as a Supreme Court justice.

Malhotra holds the distinction of being only the second woman in Supreme Court’s history to be designated as a senior advocate in 2007.

In all, Malhotra is going to be the seventh woman judge since independence to make it to the Supreme Court.

At present, Justice R Banumathi is the lone woman judge in the apex court.

In the early 1950s two scientists, Rosalind Franklin and Maurice Wilkins, studied DNA using x-rays. Franklin produced an x-ray photograph that allowed two other researchers, James Watson and Francis Crick to work out the 3D structure of DNA. The structure of DNA was found to be a double helix.
