The American Civil War has been known by a number of names since it began in 1861.

In most East Asian languages, the war is called "Battle between North and South side of the United States" or more commonly as "American (U.S.) North–South War", depending on the individual language.

The reasons that a company might want to raise money by issuing stock are:

• To pay for new buildings and inventories

• To hire more employees

• To provide for a merger or acquisition

• To decrease debt

• To give company owners greater flexibility

• To place a value on the company.
