Given fraction is 5 (2/7) - 3 (1/14) - 2 (1/14) - 1 (1/7) = ? + 3 (1/17) 

It can be written as 

(5 - 3 - 2 - 1) + (2/7 - 1/14 - 1/14 - 1/7) = ? +  3 (1/17) 

-1 + 0 - 3 (1/17) = ?

=> ? = -4 (1/17)
