Q:

A tank has an inlet and outlet pipe. The inlet pipe fills the tank completely in 2 hours when the outlet pipe is plugged. The outlet pipe empties the tank completely in 6 hours when the inlet pipe is pluggeed.

If there is a lekage also which is capable of draining out the liquid from the tank at half of the  rate of outet pipe,them what is the time taken to fill the emty tank when both the pipes are opened?

A) 3 hours B) 4 hours
C) 5 hours D) None of these

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) 4 hours

Explanation:

Rate of leakage = 8.33% per hour

Net efficiency = 50 - (16.66 + 8.33)= 25%

Time required = 100/25 = 4 hours

Q:

The ages of Anushka, Kajal and Charu latha together are 57 years. Bharti is thrice as old as Anushka and Charu latha is 12 years older than Anushka. Then, the respective age of Anushka, Kajal and Charu latha is ?

A) 27, 9, 21 B) 9, 21, 27
C) 21, 27, 9 D) 9, 27, 21

Answer & Explanation Answer: D) 9, 27, 21

Explanation:

Let Anushka age = X
Charu latha 12 yrs older than Anushka so Charu latha age = x+12
Kajal is thrice as old as Anushka so Kajal age = 3x
The ages of Anushka, Kajal and Charu latha together are 57 years
i.e x + (x+12) + 3x = 57
=> 5x = 45
:- x = 9
Anushka age = 9
Kajal age = 3x = 27
Charu latha age = x+12 = 21

A) Rs. 4250 B) Rs. 4520
C) Rs. 4060 D) None of these

Answer & Explanation Answer: A) Rs. 4250

Explanation:

Amithab's total expenditure for Jan - June  = 4200 x 6 = 25200

Expenditure for Feb - June = 25200-1200 = 24000

Expenditure for the months of Feb - July = 24000 + 1500 =25500

Q:

The average of 26,29,n,35 and 43 lies between 25 and 35. If n is always an integer and greater than the average  of the given integers then the value of n is :

A) 33 B) 34
C) 33 D) None of these

Answer & Explanation Answer: C) 33
Explanation:

Average of 26,29,35 and 43 is 33.25 . Also the average of 26 , 29, n, 35 and 43 lies between 25 and 35 i.e,

 25<26+29+n+35+435<35

=> 125 < 26+29+n+35+43 < 175

=> 125 < 133 + n < 175

=> n < 42

 Since the value of n is an integer and greater than 33.25 then 33 < n < 42 for every integer n.

Q:

5% of a number is 25% more than another number. The difference between the numbers is 96. Then find the value of the numbers?

A) 102 & 6 B) 99 & 3
C) 104 & 8 D) 100 & 4

Answer & Explanation Answer: D) 100 & 4

Explanation:

Let the first number be x and the second number be y.

Given

5% of x = (25% of y) + y

=> 5x/100 = 5y/4

=> x = 25y ......(1)

and also given that, x - y = 96

=> x = 96 + y .....(2)

From (1)&(2)

25y = 96 + y

=> 24y = 96

=> y = 4

From (1)

x = 96 + 4 = 100

Hence, the numbers are 100 & 4.

Q:

A room is 6 meters 24 centimeters in length and 4 meters 32 centimeters in Width. Find the least number of square tiles of equal size required to cover the entire floor of the room.

A) 107 B) 117
C) 127 D) 137

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) 117

Explanation:

Let us calculate both the length and width of the room in centimeters.

Length = 6 meters and 24 centimeters = 624 cm

width = 4 meters and 32 centimeters = 432 cm

As we want the least number of square tiles required, it means the length of each square tile should be as large as possible.Further,the length of each square tile should be a factor of both the length and width of the room.

Hence, the length of each square tile will be equal to the HCF of the length and width of the room = HCF of 624 and 432 = 48

Thus, the number of square tiles required = (624 x 432 ) / (48 x 48) = 13 x 9 = 117
