Q:

How do we create a DHTML drop-down menu?

Answer

- In order to create a DHTML drop down menu we need JavaScript API. The API (Application Programming Interface) consists of core set of cross-browser JavaScript functions to make DHTML programming easy and quick. This API enables moving and hiding page elements as well as acts as getter and setter of page elements attributes.

- Second we define on image object and off image object and string containing the URL of the "off" version.

- Then we create the menu items, label items and sub-menu items. If we wish we can use images also.

- Then we need to define our own global variables that will be used by the menu. Using global goes against oops design but makes sharing data easier.

- Create the menubar object, adding the menu labels and writing menubars.

- Create menu object, adding menu items and writing menus.

- Hiding and displaying the menus and attaching stylesheet.

Q:

Give an example for the use of volatile keyword in c++ ?

Answer

Most of the times compilers will do optimization to the code to speed up the program. For example in the below code,

int k = 15;
while( k == 15)

{
// Do something
}

compiler may think that value of 'k' is not getting changed in the program and replace it with 'while(true)', which will result in an infinite loop. In actual scenario, the value of 'k' may be getting updated from outside of the program.

Volatile keyword is used to tell compiler that the variable declared using 'volatile' may be used from outside the current scope, so that compiler won't apply any optimization. This matters only in case of multi-threaded applications.

In the above example if variable 'k' was declared using volatile, compiler will not optimize it. In shot, value of the volatile variables will be read from the memory location directly.

How to identify a given positive decimal number as even/odd without using % or / operator ?

Answer

You may be very good at coding,but if you questioning how on earth you could solve this problem.Then here is a solution. If you remember the good old days of our primary school then the solution is easy,"division is a matter of iterative subtraction".

public class TestEvenOdd {
public static void main(String arg[ ]){
int num=6;
int result=num;
while(result>=2){
result=result-2;
}
if(result==1){
System.out.println("The number is odd");
}else{
System.out.print("The number is even");
}
}
}

Q:

What is Mainframe Testing?

Answer

Mainframe Testing is similar to client-server applications testing, but you have to know how to operate basic TSO and ISPF commands and menus, view mainframe files, look at and use SDSF or other output tool, log on CICS and transactions, use FTP or another transfer protocol, submit the batch job - it's for QA testing of mainframe applications.
