Questions

Q:

Each of the questions below consists of a question and two statements numbered I and II given below it. You have to decide whether the data provided in the statements are sufficient to answer the question. What is the ratio of the length of a rectangle to the side of a square?

I. The area of the square is 576 sq cm and the area of the rectangle is 600 sq cm.

II. The breadth of the rectangle is half the side of the square.

A) The data in Statement I alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in Statement II alone are not sufficient to answer the question. B) The data in Statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question, while the data in Statement I alone are not sufficient to answer the question.
C) The data in either Statement I alone are in Statement II alone are sufficient to answer the question. D) The data in both the Statements I and II are not sufficient to answer the question.

Answer & Explanation Answer:

Explanation:

From statement I, Area of square = 576 sq cm
Side of square = 24 cm
Area of rectangle = l × b
l × b = 600 sq cm
From statement II, Suppose the breadth of the
rectangle is x. Then side of the square = 2x
Combining both the information, we have
x =12 cm
Now, l × 12 = 600

l=60012=50 cm

Required ratio = 5024=2512=25:12

Both the statements together are sufficient.

Q:

Four statements are given below at A, B, C and D. There may be some errors in the given statement(s). The incorrect statement is your answer.

A) Racing for the bus, her bag flew open and all the documents were lost. B) As she raced for the bus, her bag flew open making the documents lost.
C) Racing for the bus, her bag flung open and all the documents were lost. D) The documents were lost, when racing for the bus, her bag flung open.

Answer & Explanation Answer:

Explanation:

Options A, C and E in the absence of a proper subject add the ‘bag’ automatically to the verb ‘racing for the bus’. So, it does not make any sense as it would mean that the bag is racing for the bus. Option B is incorrect because of the fragment ‘making the documents lose’. Option D doesn't convey the proper meaning.
