Velocitation is a phenomenon caused by driving for long periods at high speeds. A driver may experience velocitation when coming off of the highway; the change in speed makes him or her think that the car is going much slower than it actually is.

Abiotic and biotic factors are what make up an ecosystem.

Abiotic factors are all nonliving components of an ecosystem. These factors include chemical and geological features such as water or lack of water, soil, rocks, and minerals. Other abiotic factors include physical components such as the temperature and weather affecting the ecosystem.


The biotic factors in an ecosystem include all living things. All plants, animals, fungi, protists, and bacteria within an ecosystem make up that system's biotic factors. The biotic factors can be broken down further into producers, consumers, and decomposers.

The biotic factors present in an ecosystem are highly dependent on the abiotic factors that are present. Even slight changes to either factor can have a major consequence upon the system as a whole.

Flow control, also called optimized production technology, focuses on the efficient flow of material through the production process. The philosophy of flow control focuses on bottlenecks. For example, an owner using flow control will not buy a machine capable of 1,000 units an hour if supply 500 units. Examine systems and determine where lowest flow is experienced, then address that point and make sure it operates at full capacity. Flow control applies well where maximum productivity is required.

Lipoproteins are particles that contain triacylglycerol (TAG), cholesterol, phospholipids and amphipathic proteins called apolipoproteins.

The four major types of lipoproteins are

1. chylomicrons,

2. very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL),

3. low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and

4. high-density lipoprotein (HDL).

Chylomicrons are formed in the endoplasmic reticulum in the absorptive cells (enterocytes) of the small intestine.

The function of these lipoproteins is to deliver energy-rich triacylglycerol (TAG) to cells in the body (pink pathway). TAG is stripped from chylomicrons and VLDL through the action of lipoprotein lipase, an enzyme that is found on the surface of endothelial cells. This enzyme digests the TAG to fatty acids and monoglycerides, which can then diffuse into the cell to be oxidized, or in the case of an adipose cell, to be re-synthesized into TAG and stored in the cell.
