Q:

A man’s average monthly expenditure for the first four months of the year was Rs. 231.25. For the next five months, the average monthly expenditure was Rs. 22.75 more than what it was during the first four months. If the person spent Rs. 605 in all during the remaining three months of the year, find what percentage of his annual income of Rs. 3500 did he save in the year?

A) 10% B) 15%
C) 20% D) 25%

Answer & Explanation Answer: C) 20%

Explanation:

A man's average monthly expenditure for the first four months of the year = Rs.231.25.
For four month = 231.25 * 4 = Rs. 925
For next five month he spend = 231.25 + 22.75 for one month.
In five month he spend = (231.25 + 22.75) X 5 = 1270
If the person spent Rs. 605 in all during the remaining three months of the year,
Total expense = 925+1270+605= 2800
Saving = 3500-2800 = 700
% saving = 700/3500 * 100 = 20%

Q:

Anmol soldtwo items for Rs 1000 each. On one, he gained 10% and on other, he lost 10%. How much did he gain or lose in the whole transaction?

A) profit,0.95% B) loss,1%
C) profit,10% D) loss,10%

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) loss,1%

Explanation:

Let the two item be A and B.

Cost price of A be x and cost price of B be y.

A sold for Rs 1000 on 10 % gain = 1.1x =1000

x= 1000/1.1 = 909.09

B sold for Rs. 1000 on 10% loss = 0.9y =1000y= 1000/0.9 = 1111.11

Total cost price of A and B = 2020.20

Selling price of A and B = 2000

Loss % = (2020.20 –2000)/2000 X 100

= 1.01 % loss

A) 6 B) 18
C) 12 D) 24

Answer & Explanation Answer: C) 12

Explanation:

Let the number of buffaloes be x

 and number of ducks be y.

Now, number of heads = x+y

Number of legs = 4x+2y  .......(1)

But given that legs = 2(x+y)+24 ......(2)

solving (1) & (2),we get

4x+2y=2x+2y+24

--> x=12.

Therefore number of buffaloes =12

Q:

A certain sum is invested for 2 years in scheme M at 20% p.a. compound interest (compounded annually), Same sum is also invested for the same period in scheme N at k% p.a. simple interest. The interest earned from scheme M is twice of that earned from scheme N. What is the value of k?

A) 7 B) 11
C) 9 D) 13

Answer & Explanation Answer: B) 11

Explanation:

Interest earned in scheme M =

P1 + 201002  - 1  = 11P25

Interest earned in scheme N =

P x k x 2100 = Pk50

Now, from the given data,

11P25 = 2 x Pk50

k = 11
